The Leduc 0.21 was a research aircraft built in France in 1953 to refine the practicalities of ramjet propulsion. Initially proposed as the 0.20, it was essentially similar to its predecessor, the Leduc 0.10, but scaled up by around 30%, with tip tanks added to the wings. Again, it was not capable of take-off under its own power, and had to be carried aloft and released.
Two examples were built and completed a very detailed flight test program from 1953 to 1956 to develop automated, operationally viable throttle controls for the ramjet. This included a total of 284 free flights. Designed for subsonic speeds only, the 0.21 reached a top speed of Mach 0.95.

looks like he could use a bit more wine. Interesting concept to eliminate drag. Awesome plexiglass pilot enclosure as well.

Well hes French in the 50's, I'm sure it was quite a lunch. We are talking about a country whose military has porcelain lined petrol cans for wine rations. Yeah the canopy is great.

I have 28 year's in aviation and I never knew they put a cockpit in a nose cone. That just looks nuts.

I worked for Saab before I worked with cars, I had seen a picture of this years ago in the 70's but I had forgotten about it. I am amazed it isn't more widely known do to its insane French design. It reminds me of the Bugatti 100 in some ways, but in a science fiction redesign. I remember the first time I saw it, I thought it was not a real picture.
